Lin ying hsuan Solo Exhibition Trap Step in Beijing China

The straight line, a symbol of rational civilization, encounters unprecedented challenges in Lin Ying-Hsuan’s work. Based on the architectural characteristics of the staircase, the exhibition incorporates minimalist abstract forms, initiating a cross-dimensional dialogue between three-dimensional and flat surfaces. Starting from the individual "self," it explores the transformative process of the subject shaped by normative social spaces and the instinctual states encountered along the way. Highly saturated fluorescent color blocks pierce the silence of rationality like warning signals, while blue transforms the entire space into a flowing "visual deep sea." In a poetic interplay between the familiar and the unfamiliar, the individual and the city, surface reality is reduced to its most essential structures: the deconstruction and reorganization of color and geometry refract elusive light effects, while a cloyingly sweet olfactory release evokes childhood phantasms buried deep within the viewer’s memory. All these spatial reconstructions create a motif of "sweet confinement," where softness concealed within geometry responds to and re-constructs perceptions often overlooked in the present.
